A New Expression of American Craft

Introducing Book Sconce by Brightbound.

Hospitality Lounge Application | Warm Walnut Finish, Medium

At Brightbound, the spirit of making is woven into everything we do. It is an ongoing exploration of material, form and the relationship between thoughtful design and the human hand.

More than a year in development, Book Sconce represents a new expression of this philosophy, bringing our approach to craftsmanship and material exploration into an entirely new architectural lighting application.

A departure in form and function, yet unmistakably Brightbound in character, Book Sconce reflects a belief that even the most functional objects can carry meaning, invite curiosity and enrich the spaces we inhabit.

Circulation Space Application | Ebonized Cherry Finish, Medium

Designed for the Spaces Between

Light has a remarkable ability to influence how we experience a space. Beyond illumination, it creates atmosphere, establishes rhythm and quietly shapes our relationship with the built environment.

Book Sconce was developed with this understanding at its heart.

Designed for hallways, architectural circulation spaces, hospitality environments and intimate residential interiors, its understated form offers a considered approach to ambient illumination.

In a corridor, a series of Book Sconces can establish a gentle visual rhythm. Beside a bed or within a reading nook, the warmth of wood and light creates a more intimate experience. Within hospitality environments, its sculptural simplicity introduces a sense of materiality and quiet architectural presence.

Rather than demanding attention, Book Sconce invites a closer look, revealing the relationship between its materials, construction and the light it produces.

Its versatility lies not only in where it can be placed, but in how naturally it becomes part of the architectural language of its surroundings.

An Object Worth Reading

For Brightbound Partner Will Kavesh, who has been instrumental in developing the manufacturing processes behind Book Sconce, the ambition extends beyond the creation of a functional lighting fixture.

The design explores the possibility that an everyday object might communicate something more profound through its material, form and the care invested in its making.

As Will explains:

"Book sconce is aimed at creating a functional item that embodies ideas essential to mystical objects. Just as certain pottery can make us consider patience and wisdom or carefully designed buildings can make us feel both welcomed and intimidated, the book sconce employs innovative craft method to share presence and meaning worth interpreting."

It is a perspective that challenges the distinction between functional design and artistic expression.

An object need not be elaborate to be meaningful. Sometimes, the most restrained forms create the greatest opportunity for interpretation.

Will continues:

"The book sconce patiently waits to be read, offering a restrained opportunity to contemplate how light and wood can pull new understanding from us."

This idea sits at the heart of Book Sconce. Its simplicity is intentional, allowing the natural character of wood, the presence of light and the precision of its construction to become the defining elements of the design.

Like a book, it offers something to be discovered through time, attention and experience.

Will Kavesh, Partner | Brightbound Brooklyn Studio

The Spirit of Making

Developed collaboratively. Crafted in Brooklyn, and brought together in Napa.

Book Sconce is the culmination of more than a year of design exploration, technical development and hands-on refinement.

Developed through the collective expertise of Brightbound's creative team, with Partners Damon Savoia and Will Kavesh instrumental in its evolution, the product reflects a close relationship between design ambition and the practical intelligence required to realize it.

In Brightbound's newly operational Brooklyn Studio, Will has developed the specialized machining and manufacturing processes that bring Book Sconce to life.

This work requires an intimate understanding of material behavior, precision and the relationship between contemporary manufacturing methods and traditional craftsmanship.

The process then continues in Napa, where our team brings the components together through final assembly, completing the journey from individual elements to finished lighting object.

Across both studios, Book Sconce embodies a shared commitment to thoughtful design, careful execution and the human spirit of making.

It is this collaboration, between people, processes and places, that gives the product its distinctive character.

Four Finishes | Ebonized Cherry, Warm Walnut, Natural Oak & White Washed Ash

Considered in Every Detail

Book Sconce is offered in four carefully selected wood finishes, each bringing its own character to the design.

Natural Oak celebrates the warmth and organic beauty of wood, while Ebonized Cherry offers a deeper, more dramatic expression.

White Washed Ash introduces a lighter, softer material presence, and Warm Walnut brings richness and depth to the collection.

Available in 13-inch and 16-inch sizes, Book Sconce can be incorporated into a range of architectural and interior settings.

For projects requiring a more tailored approach, custom and site-specific configurations are available upon request, allowing the design to respond to individual spatial requirements.

These possibilities extend Book Sconce's architectural relevance while preserving the material integrity and considered proportions at the heart of its design.
